More about the u3a

The original u3a concept was proposed by Pierre Vellas in Toulouse in 1973. Variations on this then rapidly spreading around the world.
In 1981 the U3a was established in the UK U3a, which is loosely based on the French model, Today there are now around 1,200 instances of u3a in the UK providing an opportunity for members to come together to share their skills and learn for fun.
The u3a movement has almost half a million UK members and is non-religious and non-political. We believe in Life Long Learning. No qualifications are sought or offered. Learning is for its own sake, with enjoyment being the prime motive, not qualifications or awards.
